MESQUITE CARES Business Grant Application

Program Information

Thank you for your interest in the Mesquite CARES Small Business Assistance Program. Please read all of the eligibility and application instructions carefully to ensure your application is successfully processed.  Due to the Governor’s recent directives, it is anticipated that the need for business assistance will outweigh allotted funding, and completed applications will receive funding priority in the order they are received.  Submitting an application does not guarantee funding; however, the City’s mission is to help as many impacted eligible businesses as possible during this difficult and ever-changing time.

What:  The Mesquite CARES Small Business Assistance Program has been established utilizing a portion of federal CARES Act funding allocated to the City.  Eligible expenses include payroll, rent/mortgage, utility bills, COVID supplies, cleaning and sanitation, and expenses related to retrofitting in order to comply with social distancing and other health guidelines.

Who: Small businesses based in Mesquite in good standing with the City that have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are eligible to apply. Approved entities with 1-20 employees are eligible to receive up to $10,000.00 in funding; those approved entities with 21-40 employees are eligible to receive up to $15,000.00.

Below are the eligibility requirements:

  • Can demonstrate financial hardship due to COVID-19 and/or the resulting Stay At Home orders
  • Have a physical location within the Mesquite city limits (includes home-based businesses)
  • Have an active business license as of March 15, 2020 and be in good standing with the City (current on bills, no liens or judgments, etc.)
  • Have no more than 40 employees
  • Have an annual gross revenue between $50,000 and $2.5 million
  • One application per business

The following entities are ineligible for this program

  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Publicly traded companies and their subsidiaries
  • Business started after March 15, 2020, not physically located within Mesquite, or with gross annual revenue outside of the $50,000 - $2.5 million range.

How: Eligible businesses meeting the criteria are encouraged to complete the following application to be considered for program funding.  Please answer all questions and attach a recently filed Form 941 Employer’s Quarterly Tax Return or 2019 W-3 Form.  Complete and eligible applications will be reviewed and recommended for funding on a first-come, first-served basis until funding is depleted.  All application information will be verified by City staff.  Awarded businesses will be required to sign an agreement containing the following.

  • Certify COVID-related economic hardship
  • Detail expenses to be covered with the award
  • Consent to auditing/penalties for noncompliance with award terms and conditions.

Payments will be disbursed prior to December 30, 2020, and may be made directly to landlords, utilities, vendors, etc. as determined through the review process.

When: The application period is currently open and will remain open until all funds have been allocated.

Questions: Please contact Shanna McPheters at the City of Mesquite (702) 346-5295 or via email at SMcPheters@MesquiteNV.gov.
